History

In 1988 a small number of kayaking enthousiasts from Wageningen went looking for a suitable accomodation for storing their kayaks and, more importantly, to use this location as their home base for kayak trips on the river Rhine. After having rejected several buildings, they found the ( back then ) abandoned brickworks "De Bovenste Polder". In a relatively short period of time, this small group of enthousiasts grew to become a real kayaking club.

The official establishment date of Kayak Club Wageningen "De Bovenste Polder" is June 21, 1988. In our early days, besides paddling, restoration of the old brick ovens ( now the storage for our kayaks ) was an important activity of our club. But countless kayak trips later, the old brickworks now is an industrial monument, managed by the Association for Preservation of the "Bovenste Polder". Besides our kayak club, the building now houses a few families, artist workshops and rehearsing music bands.
